Aged Care Facility Bedroom Cleaning Methods Followed by NDIS House Cleaners

A bedroom in a care setting or a participant's home is cleaned in a specific order: top down, linen handled before floors, touch points not forgotten, and the path from the bed to the door left completely clear.

Our position on registration, stated plainly

3 Piglets Cleaning is not an NDIS registered provider. That means self-managed and plan-managed participants can choose us freely, and agency-managed (NDIA-managed) participants cannot. If you are unsure how your plan is managed, your plan manager or support coordinator can confirm it in a minute.

Why the bedroom deserves more attention than it gets

It is where the most hours are spent, and it is where night-time movement happens — usually in low light, often half asleep. That makes the floor and the route across it more important than the dusting.

The order

Linen comes off before dusting so what falls off it gets picked up, and the bed is remade before the floor so nothing lands on a clean surface.

Linen handling

  • Used linen bagged in the room, not carried loose down the hallway
  • Bag closed before it leaves the room
  • Fresh linen brought in only after the used linen has gone
  • Bed remade fully rather than left for someone else
  • Mattress protector checked and changed on its own cycle
  • Pillows plumped and repositioned as the person keeps them

Touch points in a bedroom

Consistently missed in a standard clean, and used constantly.

Bedroom touch points
ItemWhy it matters
Bed rails and grab handlesGripped every time someone gets in or out
Light switch and bedside lampUsed in the dark, often repeatedly
Door handle, both sidesEvery entry and exit
Remote control and telephoneHandled constantly, cleaned almost never
Bedside table surfaceWhere glasses, water and medication sit
Call button or alert deviceCleaned around carefully, never repositioned
Chair armsWhere hands push down to stand up

The path from bed to door

This is the detail that matters most and takes the least time. The route from the bed to the door — and from the bed to the ensuite if there is one — should be completely clear when we leave, with mats flat, nothing protruding into it, and the floor dry.

Nothing gets rearranged

Furniture placement in a bedroom is often deliberate: a chair positioned to push up from, a table within reach without standing. Everything goes back exactly where it was.

What we do not do

We do not handle personal items beyond what is needed to clean around them, do not reorganise wardrobes or drawers unless it is on the task list, and do not touch medication or personal care equipment at all.

We provide NDIS cleaning support across Melbourne's eastern suburbs. If you would like to talk through what would work for you, get in touch.

Frequently asked questions

How often should bed linen be changed?

Weekly is the common cycle in most homes, and it is set on your task list rather than by us. Some households prefer fortnightly with a top-sheet change in between.

Do you vacuum under the bed?

On rotation rather than every visit, unless you would rather it were every time. It takes real time and most homes prefer that time spent elsewhere.

Will you move the furniture to clean?

Only if it is on the task list or you ask on the day, and it goes back in exactly the same position.
