Five areas carry most of the value in an aged care clean: the bathroom, the floors people actually walk on, touch points, the kitchen, and the bedroom. Everything else can rotate.
Bathroom
Highest risk and highest priority. Beyond the standard fixtures:
- Grab rails, including the underside where hands grip
- Base of the toilet and the floor behind it
- Shower screen bottom track
- Non-slip mat lifted, cleaned, put back flat
- Shower chair or stool if there is one
- Exhaust cover where it can be reached safely
- Floor dried before we leave
Floors and the routes across them
Not every square metre equally. The route from bed to bathroom, and chair to kitchen, carries the most traffic and the most risk.
Mats are the detail everyone misses
A rug with a curled edge is the most common trip hazard in a home. We check the edges every visit and lay them flat, and tell the family if a mat needs an underlay or needs to go.
Touch points
Handles, switches, rails, taps, the fridge handle, the phone, the remote. These are touched dozens of times a day and cleaned almost never in a standard house clean.
Kitchen
| Item | Every visit | Rotating |
|---|---|---|
| Benches and sink | Yes | — |
| Stovetop | Yes | Knobs and surround detailed |
| Fridge front and handle | Yes | Inside shelves and drawers |
| Floor, including in front of the sink | Yes | Under the kickboard edge |
| Spills and drips | Cleared as found | — |
| Oven | Wiped outside | Inside on request |
| Bin | Emptied and relined | Sanitised |
The bias is toward daily usability rather than deep cleaning. Someone needs to be able to make a cup of tea and a meal easily and hygienically.
Bedroom
Where the most hours are spent. Dust, vacuum, linen on the agreed cycle, and the path from bed to door kept clear — that route often gets used in the dark.
What rotates instead
Spare rooms, storage, the garage, the laundry beyond the basics, windows, blinds and light fittings all sit on a rotation. They get done properly, just not weekly, so the five areas above never get shortchanged.
We are cleaners, not carers
3 Piglets Cleaning is a cleaning business. We clean the home and keep it comfortable and easy to move around in. We do not provide personal care, nursing, medication support or any form of medical assistance, and nothing on this page should be read as health advice.
We provide aged care cleaning across Melbourne's eastern suburbs from our base in Croydon. If you would like to talk it through, get in touch — there is no pressure either way.
Frequently asked questions
Why are touch points singled out?
Because they are touched constantly and cleaned rarely. A door handle gets more contact in a day than a coffee table gets in a week.
Is linen changed every visit?
On whatever cycle you set. Weekly is common; some households prefer fortnightly with a top sheet change in between.
Can the priorities be reordered?
Yes. This is where we start, not where we have to stay. It is your checklist.
