An aged care clean spends its time differently to a standard house clean. The priority is not what looks worst — it is what affects safety, hygiene and daily comfort in the rooms actually being used.
Priority order
1. The bathroom
Wet surfaces, hard edges and the place people are least steady. Beyond the obvious fixtures, the specific extras are grab rails including the underside, the base and back of the toilet, the shower screen track, and the non-slip mat lifted and cleaned underneath. The floor is dried before we leave.
2. Walkways and floors
The route from bed to bathroom, and from chair to kitchen, gets more attention than the middle of a room nobody crosses. Mats are checked for curling edges and put back flat.
| Check | Why |
|---|---|
| Mat edges lying flat | Curled edges are the most common trip hazard in a home |
| Floor left dry | A wet floor is a hazard we would have created ourselves |
| Nothing left in the walkway | Vacuum cords, buckets and bins all cleared before we move on |
| Furniture back in position | A chair 20 cm out of place matters if someone navigates by it |
| Cords not crossing a path | Flagged to family if we cannot resolve it safely |
3. Touch points
- Door handles, both sides
- Light switches and power points in use
- Grab rails and handrails
- Kitchen tap and fridge handle
- Remote controls and the telephone
- Walking frame handles, if asked
- Chair arms where hands push down to stand
4. The kitchen
Focused on daily use rather than deep cleaning: benches, sink, stovetop, fridge front and handle, floor, and any spills cleared. Inside the oven and inside the fridge are rotating or on-request tasks rather than every visit.
5. The bedroom
Where the most hours are spent. Dusting, vacuuming, linen changed on the agreed cycle, and — specifically — the path from the bed to the door kept clear, because that route often gets used at night.
What comes last
Spare rooms, storage, the garage and anywhere not in regular use are done on rotation or on request. There is no point spending twenty minutes on a room nobody enters while the bathroom gets a rushed ten.
We are cleaners, not carers
3 Piglets Cleaning is a cleaning business. We clean the home and keep it comfortable and easy to move around in. We do not provide personal care, nursing, medication support or any form of medical assistance, and nothing on this page should be read as health advice.
We provide aged care cleaning across Melbourne's eastern suburbs from our base in Croydon. If you would like to talk it through, get in touch — there is no pressure either way.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the spare room not cleaned every visit?
Because the time is better spent on the bathroom, the walkways and the kitchen. Rooms in low use are cleaned on rotation, and we will do them every visit if you would rather.
Do you clean inside the fridge and oven?
On request or on rotation, not every visit — they take substantial time. Tell us how often you want them and we will build it into the checklist.
Can we change what gets priority?
Yes, any time. It is your home and your checklist.
