Things You Need to Consider While Choosing an NDIS House Cleaning Service

Things You Need to Consider While Choosing an NDIS House Cleaning Service

Start with your plan type, because it rules most providers in or out before anything else matters. After that, the thing participants consistently rate highest is not price or speed — it is getting the same person every visit.

Our position on registration, stated plainly

3 Piglets Cleaning is not an NDIS registered provider. That means self-managed and plan-managed participants can choose us freely, and agency-managed (NDIA-managed) participants cannot. If you are unsure how your plan is managed, your plan manager or support coordinator can confirm it in a minute.

1. Your plan type comes first

Plan management and who can choose any provider
Plan typeCan you use a non-registered cleaner?Why
Self-managedYesYou choose any provider and manage the payments yourself
Plan-managedYesYour plan manager pays providers on your behalf, registered or not
Agency-managed (NDIA-managed)NoThe NDIA only pays NDIS-registered providers

2. Worker screening

Anyone attending a participant's home should hold an NDIS Worker Screening Clearance. It is reasonable to ask, and a straight answer should come back immediately.

  • NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Certificate
  • National police check
  • Working with Children Check where relevant
  • Public liability insurance held by the business

3. Continuity of who turns up

A rotating cast of cleaners means re-explaining your home, your preferences and your boundaries every visit. Ask directly: will it be the same person, and what happens when they are away?

The answer you want

'The same technician by default, we tell you in advance if that changes, and whoever covers gets briefed on your task list first.' Anything vaguer than that means you will be re-explaining things.

4. A written task list

Verbal scope drifts. A written list agreed at the start means the visit is the same in month six as it was in week one, and it is what your plan manager will want to see.

5. Flexibility around your routine

Things worth checking up front
QuestionWhy it matters
Can I have a fixed day and time?A wide arrival window is hard to plan a day around
How much notice to change a visit?Appointments and health change at short notice
What if I am unwell on the day?You want a policy, not an argument
Can you work fragrance-free?Product sensitivity is common and easy to accommodate
Can you use my products? Some participants prefer specific products
Will you work around a support worker?Homes often have several services visiting

6. Communication

Who do you contact, and how fast do they respond? For a service that comes into your home weekly, being able to reach a person easily matters more than most people expect when they are choosing.

7. Boundaries

A cleaning service cleans. It does not provide personal care, does not give health or plan advice, and does not make decisions about your possessions. A provider blurring those lines is a warning sign, not a bonus.

We provide NDIS cleaning support across Melbourne's eastern suburbs. If you would like to talk through what would work for you, get in touch.

Frequently asked questions

Should I only consider registered providers?

Only if your plan is agency-managed. Self-managed and plan-managed participants have the full market available, registered or not.

What is the most common complaint about NDIS cleaners?

Inconsistency — a different person each time, or the visit moving around the week. Both are worth asking about specifically before you commit.

Can I change provider if it is not working?

Yes. Check the notice period in your service agreement, but you are not locked in.
