During the visit
Things that are not our job
Being clear about the boundary protects the client as much as us.
- No personal care, nursing or medication support of any kind
- No medical or health advice
- No repairs, electrical work or anything requiring a licensed trade
- No moving heavy furniture without help and agreement
- No decisions about what to throw away
- No commentary on how the household is run
If we notice something outside our scope, we tell the nominated contact. That is the right amount of involvement.

Where families should push back
If a provider will not tell you who is coming, will not put the scope in writing, or gives you a four-hour arrival window, those are all reasonable things to push back on. None of them are unreasonable asks.

Residential facilities operate under their own framework. Cleaning in a private home is not separately regulated, so the provider's own written standard and their workers' clearances are what you are actually relying on.
Should the cleaner report things they notice?
To the nominated family contact, yes. That is different from assessing or intervening, which is not a cleaner's role.
How long should an aged care clean take?
It depends entirely on the home and the scope. What matters more is that the time is consistent week to week, so the household knows what to expect.
